The International Air Transport Association (IATA)

The International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) Carbon Offset Program enables IATA airlines to offer high quality offset services to passengers. These are based on standard procedures and calculation methodologies. The program has been approved by the UK Government’s Quality Assurance Scheme for Carbon Offsetting. Its offsets approved are:

TAP Portugal

TAP has had its carbon offsets approved by the UK Government’s Quality Assurance Scheme for Carbon Offsetting. TAP was the first airline to launch the IATA Carbon Offset Program. The Program went live on the 5th June 2009 (United Nation’s World Environment Day).

Buying Solutions

Buying Solutions is an executive agency of the Office of Government Commerce in HM Treasury, and operates the Government Carbon Offsetting Facility (GCOF) under a memorandum of understanding with the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC).

All organisations for which Buying Solutions can legally procure goods and services can join GCOF. This covers most of the public sector such as central Government Departments, Executive Agencies, Devolved Administrations and Local Authorities. The Buying Solutions website lists the public sector bodies which are eligible (though this is not necessarily exhaustive).

GCOF can be used to offset:

·         Air Travel

·         Road Travel

·         Rail Travel

·         Estates (electricity and fuel)
